Carb Manager imports exercise and health data from a Fitbit device via the Google Health app. **Note: Connected Fitbit to Carb Manager before?** Google is updating how Fitbit shares data with apps like Carb Manager, so you'll need to reconnect Fitbit using your Google account to keep your data syncing. For steps, see [Keep your Fitbit data flowing into Carb Manager](https://help.carbmanager.com/docs/keep-your-fitbit-data-flowing-into-carb-manager). On iPhone, you can also bring your Fitbit data in through Apple Health. The same article has those steps. ## Data that is shared Carb Manager imports the following information from Fitbit. - steps - exercise minutes — includes time engaged in any activity above 3.0 metabolic equivalents (METs), where 1.0 MET equals the energy used while resting - exercise calories/kilojoules burned — uses Google Health's active calories, which is Google's estimate of the calories you burn through activity across the whole day, above the calories your body burns at rest (basal metabolic rate, or BMR) - weight - body fat % - sleep — includes overall tracked sleep time minus your time spent awake and restless **Note:** For more information about data that is imported from a Fitbit device, see Fitbit's documentation: - [How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?](https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1141.htm) - [How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?](https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1314.htm) **Note about calorie/kilojoule calculations:** The calories/kilojoules burned that Carb Manager shows will be different from the total in the Google Health app. Google Health's total includes your basal metabolic rate (BMR), the calories/kilojoules your body burns at rest, plus the calories/kilojoules you burn through activity. Carb Manager imports only Google Health's active calories/kilojoules (the amount burned above your BMR), so your resting burn isn't counted twice. For many members, this is lower than what the old Fitbit connection added, so active days may add fewer calories and carbs to your daily budget than before. If your numbers look low, check that your height, weight, age, and sex are up to date in your Google Health profile, since Google uses them to work out your BMR. Carb Manager exports the following information to Fitbit/Google Health. - recipes — includes the name of a recipe and the calories/kilojoules and macros for the entire recipe - meals — includes the category for which you logged it (such as Breakfast or Snack), a calorie/kilojoule summary, and a macro breakdown for the day **Note:** Food, recipe, and meal data isn’t being sent to Google Health right now. It will sync again after an upcoming Carb Manager update. ## Connect Fitbit to Carb Manager 1. Ensure the mobile device or computer where you use Carb Manager is connected to the internet. 2. Make sure Carb Manager is updated to the latest version. If the update isn’t showing in your app store yet, check again shortly. 3. [Sign in to Carb Manager](/docs/sign-in-and-out-of-registered-carb-manager-accounts). 4. Go to [Embedded object](https://cdn.document360.io/39f753db-7167-486f-a297-e9dee7536f7d/Images/Documentation/avatar-menu-settings.svg) **Settings**. 5. In My Settings, select [Embedded object](https://cdn.document360.io/39f753db-7167-486f-a297-e9dee7536f7d/Images/Documentation/settings-app.svg) **App Settings**. 6. Optional: If you plan to consistently log exercise, Carb Manager can automatically deduct energy (calories or kilojoules) and macros from your daily totals based on the energy burned from active exercise. In the Macros Settings section, turn on **Enable Calories/Kilojoules Burned** and, optionally, **Enable Macros Burned Deduction**. For details, see [Deduct energy (calories or kilojoules) and macros when you log exercise](/docs/deduct-energy-calories-or-kilojoules-and-macros-when-you-log-exercise).**Important:** If you turned on the option to [deduct energy (calories or kilojoules) when you log exercise](/docs/en/deduct-energy-calories-or-kilojoules-and-macros-when-you-log-exercise), be sure the [activity level](/docs/en/update-your-activity-level) you selected in your profile matches your daily lifestyle and your intention to log activity from a synced fitness device or app. If you previously set a high activity level because you exercise and your daily activity primarily consists of exercise that you intend to log in Carb Manager, then select **Sedentary** as your activity level to ensure Carb Manager doesn’t count the energy that you burn twice. 7. Go to the Health & Fitness Device Links section and select **Fitbit**. 8. Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in with the Google account linked to your Fitbit. Select **all** (or select the specific health data you want to share), then tap **Continue**. Now, when you view a day in Carb Manager’s daily log, Carb Manager and Fitbit/Google Health share wellness data if data is present. Your steps, exercise minutes, and calories burned come in for each day you open, and past days fill in as you open them. If a day still looks empty, switch to another day and back. For details, see [View wellness data from a fitness device or app](/docs/view-wellness-data-from-a-fitness-device-or-app). **Tip:** If you have problems connecting Carb Manager to your Fitbit device, see [Troubleshoot issues from a fitness device or app](/docs/troubleshoot-issues-from-a-fitness-device-or-app).
