# Track energy (calories or kilojoules)

In Carb Manager, you can track the energy (calories or kilojoules) that you consume and burn throughout each day, which can help you meet your goals. Some low-carb dieters only track macros, so tracking energy is optional. When you track energy, Carb Manager displays your daily totals and remaining calories or kilojoules in the [progress charts in the daily log](/docs/view-progress-charts-of-daily-nutrition-goals-and-totals).

In addition, if you [set meal goals](/docs/set-meal-goals), Carb Manager divides calories or kilojoules among each day’s meals and snacks and displays your target energy consumption in each meal or snack section in the daily log.

**Note:** You can measure energy as either calories or kilojoules in Carb Manager. One calorie equals 4.184 kilojoules. If you choose to track energy as kilojoules instead of calories, Carb Manager multiplies your calories by 4.184 before calculating energy budgets and goals. For details, see [Change units of measurement (metric, imperial, density)](/docs/change-units-of-measurement-metric-imperial-and-density).

To track energy, complete these steps.

1. Go to [Embedded object](https://cdn.document360.io/39f753db-7167-486f-a297-e9dee7536f7d/Images/Documentation/avatar-menu-settings.svg) **Settings**.
2. In My Settings, select [Embedded object](https://cdn.document360.io/39f753db-7167-486f-a297-e9dee7536f7d/Images/Documentation/settings-app.svg) **App Settings**.
3. In the **Units** section, turn on **Enable****Calories/Kilojoules Tracking**. (The name of this setting specifies Calories or Kilojoules based on the [**Energy Units** setting](/docs/en/change-units-of-measurement-metric-imperial-and-density).)

As you log information throughout the day, Carb Manager updates your remaining energy in the daily log.

**Tip:**Other settings in Carb Manager impact how your remaining energy displays in the daily log, including the option to [deduct energy (calories or kilojoules) and macros when you log exercise](/docs/deduct-energy-calories-or-kilojoules-and-macros-when-you-log-exercise) and the option to [track total carbs, net carbs, or diabetes carbs](/docs/track-total-carbs-net-carbs-or-diabetes-carbs).
