# View sugar alcohol information in foods

Some foods that are marketed to the low carb community include sugar alcohols, also known as polyols, as a sweetener. Some of our data sources do not include sugar alcohols in the nutrition information they provide for branded foods, which impacts net carb calculations.

- To view nutrition information, see [View and edit nutrition information in foods, recipes, and meals](/docs/view-and-edit-nutrition-information-in-foods-recipes-and-meals). If you notice sugar alcohol values are missing or inaccurate, you can edit the nutrition information.

**Tip:** You can choose which type of carbs you want to track in Carb Manager. See [Track total carbs, net carbs, or diabetes carbs](/docs/en/track-total-carbs-net-carbs-or-diabetes-carbs) for details.**Note:** If you [change nutrition information in foods that you log](/docs/en/view-and-edit-nutrition-information-in-foods-recipes-and-meals), the changes apply to your account and won’t update nutrition information in our database. To request a change to our database, see [Report errors in nutrition information](/docs/en/report-errors-in-nutrition-information).

## More about sugar alcohols

Some sugar alcohols occur naturally in foods and some are produced commercially and added to foods. Sugar alcohols are low in calories (or kilojoules), typically 1.6-3 calories per gram. They are not as sweet as sugar and don't have much of an effect on insulin levels, therefore sugar alcohols are generally considered to be an acceptable sweetener for people who are on the Keto diet.

Types of sugar alcohols include:

- Erythritol
- Inositol
- Isomalt
- Lactitol
- Maltitol
- Mannitol
- Pinitol
- Sorbitol
- Xylitol
