Update an Anonymous or Masked (Apple Private Relay) Account

Article summary

This article covers two different account types and how to update each:

  • Anonymous account: You started using the app without signing in or registering.

  • Masked (Apple Private Relay) account: You signed up using Continue with Apple, which created a relay email that looks like xxxxx@privaterelay.appleid.com.

Important: Anonymous account data is stored only on the device. If you uninstall the app or lose the device before registering, the data cannot be recovered.

How to Check Your Account Type

Open the app and go to  Settings icon Settings >

Account Settings icon Account Settings. You’ll see one of the following:

  • Anonymous account: No email on file and/or a note that you’re not signed in.

  • Masked (Apple Private Relay) account — Email ends with @privaterelay.appleid.com, and Continue with Apple is listed as your sign-in method.

Convert an Anonymous Account to a Registered Account (Add Your Email)

Do this before uninstalling the app or switching devices.

  1. Open the Carb Manager app.

  2. From the welcome screen, go to Settings icon Settings >

Account Settings icon Account Settings and tap Create My Account (or Add Email).

  3. Enter your preferred email address and create a password.

  4. Complete any email verification steps sent to your inbox.

  5. You’re done—your data is now linked to your registered account and can be accessed on other devices by signing in.

Tip: Use an email you can access long-term and that you’ll also use on any other devices

Update a Masked (Apple Private Relay) Account to Your Preferred Email

You used Continue with Apple, so your account shows a relay email (e.g., @privaterelay.appleid.com). You can keep it or replace it with your own email.

Option 1: Update It Yourself

  1. Sign in using Continue with Apple.

  2. Go to Settings icon Settings >

    Account Settings icon Account Settings.

  3. In Email Address, tap Update.

  4. Enter your preferred email address and password so you can sign in with email + password in addition to using Continue with Apple.

Note: Turning off iCloud Private Relay (a browsing/privacy feature) does not change the @privaterelay.appleid.com email used by Sign in with Apple. To change the email for your Carb Manager account, use the steps above or contact Support.

Option 2: Contact Support

If you’d rather we do it for you, contact our Support Team and include:

  • Your Carb Manager username

  • The new email address you want on your account

We’ll update the account and confirm once it’s complete.

Troubleshooting

“That email address already exists.”
Another Carb Manager account is already registered with that email. You may have more than one account.

  • If you can sign in to the account that already uses that email, do so and confirm which data you want to keep.

  • Otherwise, contact Support. Provide the email you want to use and, if applicable, the masked (privaterelay) email or anonymous account details so we can help link the right account to your current data.

I don’t see an Update button for Email.
You’re likely on an anonymous account. Follow the steps in Section A to register your account first.

I can’t access the email inbox to verify.
Contact Support. Share your username, any known email(s) on the account (including
@privaterelay.appleid.com), and we’ll help you verify ownership another way.

I’m moving to a new device or platform (iOS ↔ Android).
Before switching, make sure your account is registered (not anonymous) and that you have either:

  • A working email + password, or

  • Access to your Continue with Apple sign-in (for masked accounts).
If your current platform doesn’t support your sign-in method, first change your email and set a password on a device where your current sign-in works.

Need More Help?

If anything here doesn’t match what you see in the app, or you run into errors, contact our support team with:

  • Your username

  • The email on the account (masked or regular)

  • The email you want to use

We’ll take it from there. 👍🏼
